While many are busy assessing their businesses’ impact from the COVID-19 crisis, now is the time to prepare for the future. M&A in an economic downturn may open up opportunities for one or more long-sought acquisitions.
The global financial crisis (GFC) is a close example of today’s financial climate from an M&A perspective. Companies that made significant acquisitions during the 2007-09 downturn outperformed those who did not.
If history is any indication, the window for maximizing value could be relatively short. However, bargains are to be had for those who’ve done their homework, have liquidity, and the risk tolerance to move quickly.
